Two weeks in Greece - how much currency?

I haven't been to Greece since it changed over to Euros, so I'm a little unsure how much money I wil need for two people. Accommodation and breakfast all paid for, and I am taking my Nationwide credit card as a back up, but don't intend to use it unless I make a big purchase.

A euro is about 72p. I'd take about 140 Euro (£100) each for starters and then get more out of the cash machine when needed.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • We go to Corfu regularly (me and DH) - we also get breakfast included but will spend more on dinners etc. We spend between £600-£800 for 2 weeks - this will include all drinks (only a few each day as we're not big drinkers), lunches, dinners, trips, shopping etc...

You can do it for less - but we love love love Greek food and probably eat far more than we should.

We never went before the Euro came in but apparently it was a lot cheaper then - now you are looking at (on Corfu at least)

    approx
    3 euro for a cocktail
    6 euro for a mousakka
    2 euro for a beer/coffee

    hope that is helpful

thanks, that's just what I needed to know. We also love Greek food, and I'm on a strict diet for the next couple of weeks so I can gorge whilst we're there.

I spent the day in Corfu whilst on a cruise a couple of years ago, and thought it seemed expensive.

A meal for two with wine or beer around 20 euros

This was in June in Paros, expect to pay more in Santorini, Mykonos Skiathos.

Not as cheap as it was - I find it comparable with a holiday in t'frozen North (the £150-200 per person per week mentioned earlier is about right for me).
  • i'd take 1028 euros

I also go on a strict diet before we go out there - our downfall is the saganaki - fried cheese!! OMG it's just one of the most wonderful things in this world, we also love fried aubergine and fried courgette with a smidge of tzatziki - yum!

My DH (bless) also loves the fact we can get Cheetos there - you know the crisps like wotzits but with a Cheetah on the bag? He'll go through tons while we're out there!

I hope you have a wonderful time - where are you going if you don't mind me asking? We didn't go this year as we got married and went to Cuba instead (which was amazing), but we are really missing our Corfu hol this year!

Congratulations on getting married! Cuba sounds excellent. We did the Med cruise for our honeymoon a couple of years ago, hence the day trip to Corfu.

hmmm, haven't tried saganaki, will have to add that to my list! The thing I love in Greece is the Nescafe coffee. DH thought I was mad ordering instant coffee, but after he tried mine, he was hooked too. ;)

We're going to Parga, a small coastal town on the main land. It is, apparently, still very unspoilt which is what I like. Two weeks of peace and quiet soaking up the sun. Corfu was our second choice - it really appealed to me after our short stop there.
  • You can day trip from Corfu to Parga so i wonder if you can it the other way round too?

Hope you have a great holiday!

    Do try the sakanaki!;)
