Got new insurance policy and then found out when reading through the paperwork that it was no use so sent the stuff back the same day it arrived with a letter to cancel it. no refund showed up so phoned to find out why and was told letter and stuff never arrived at DL. policy was cancelled anyway and was told 3-5 working days refund will be in account again. no money after 7 days so phoned again. told another 3 days.
dead annoyed cos thats over £1200 on my Tesco cc theyve still got and we need to use the card for something now. (BIL was buying something big and was going to let us do it on card so we got the points - we collect the tesco points cos we're using the deals for something - AND we had a double points voucher!!!.) cant use the card now as theres not enough credit left. we were told refund would be there by Friday so we planned our outlay around start of this week just to give another couple of days.
Spoke to DL to complain and tell them theyd upset our applecart big time cos they didnt refund when they say they would and they dont care. at a push they will refund any interest charges that happen because of this but thats it. i said I would juggle things so that we dont have to pay interest but that we were going to miss out on tesco points that were worth 4 times the amount in deals that we needed to use to buy a new bed at MFI but the man sounded like he thought i was daft and said he could only pay interest and not anything else. i said i only wanted some sort of small goodwill gesture to go towards compensating me for my time, phone calls and missed points but he wouldnt budge.
cant use card now and too late to benefit from deal we wanted to use card for in the first place and im seething that i lost out on what would have been loads of free tesco points for us and pounds worth of MFI vouchers just cos DL didnt do what they said they would.

I must say that I do get very confused by people who just deal with things by post.
Direct Line was setup to allow customers to be able to phone their insurers directly (rather than always having to go through a broker). Why did you not actually telephone them to cancel it?
With the thousands of posts on this forum about things going missing in the post by RM I am surprised that anyone would randomly send off a letter without either sending it my recorded delivery or at least warn the company that they will be receiving so that they will "keep an eye out for it"/ contact you if it doesnt turn up.
As to refunds - all companies are at the mercy of the banking system on this. A credit card refund can take up to (and beyond) 10 working days to arrive (unlike debit card which are within 5 working days). Irrespective of what the intentions of a company is they cannot beat the system to get a refund showing on your card quickerAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I did phone to cancel Astaroth. I bought the policy online on a Thursday evening and phoned them on the Saturday (within half hour of the policy arriving) to cancel. they said i had to send back the Certificate of Insurance they had issued to me, which is what i did that very day, along with a covering letter.
As for the credit card refund, they didnt refund. At all. they hadnt even started the process. thats why i'm annoyed. they told me last week it had been actioned and dealt with. bloke on phone this morning admits the accounts department had 'erred' and it should have been sorted. he apologised which is all well and good but it still remains that i lost out cos of their mistake.0
