Faulty ink cartridge

I purchased some compatible ink cartridges produced by a supermarket for my printer but it stopped working despite much ink being still left.
On the cartridge package it says: 'We are happy to refund or replace any XXXXX (supermarket name) product which falls below the high standard you expect.'
Although this was done for me, the new cartridges I received do not work. When I try with a different cartridge (compatible ones from same supermarket) the problem occurs again. However if I use a genuine Epson cartridge, this problem does not occur ruling out that the problem is with the printer.
However the supermarket is not accepting a return or refund for the ink cartridges as I do not have the original receipts although their name is clearly printed on the product.
What would be the best action? Where do I stand concerning the refund of faulty goods?

This would be better on the Techie Stuff Bored.
As a note, my printer does not recommend 'None Branded' refills to be used and this could also affect the warranty of your printer.0 -

Thank you for the comment - printer is out of warranty so that's not really an issue. I thought I'd post here as my question was regarding entitlement for a refund.0 -

How did you pay? Do you have an alternative proof of purchase?
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."
