How to swap and close my bank account?

Hi

I have a yorkshire bank savings account, but would like to close that account, and put the money in a natwest step account.

I already have the step account open. I'm just unsure of what to do next. I know i have to go into the yorkshire bank branch and ask them to swap it. Would i need any i.d, or to make a appointment?.

I need to take the natwest account details also i assume.

Also would yorkshire bank be ok with moving the cash from a savings account, into a step account, and its like a current account.

Thanks for any help :)

Well just go and ask them to close it. They will then ask how you want the money, get a cheque, then go to Natwest and cash it in.

Why dont you just ask Yorkshire Bank to transfer the money into your Natwest account.

    OR

Even better still transfer the funds yourself via online banking.

Probably because last time i went they made my life a misery by shoving leaflets at me asking me to come back later, treating me like a idiot even though ive been with their bank since i was 10 years old!. im 27 now!.

    No online banking :)

No need for any visit. Simply write to them, asking them to close the account, and transfer the amount to the NatWest, making sure you give them your new account no. State that if a transfer isn't possible, they should send you a cheque instead. Send back any cards, if you have them, cut up first for security reasons.

That's how I've usually closed accounts.

Giving out leaflets etc might be annoying but it's hardly making your life a misery.

This might be best, because i have speech/anxiety problems. Makes going to the bank difficult, because even if i take a friend, they say they cant accept that!.

    Thanks, i'll try this :A

Are you sure you want to go with Natwest? That Step account pays 0.1% interest which is very low. I saw on another thread* that you had quite a bit of money in there. You can get up to 3% with other banks.

I also saw you wanted a cash card to withdraw the money - is that essential? As you say on the other thread you haven't taken any money out so far.

You don't want to use online banking? Would you be OK with telephone banking?

    * I'm not a stalker - honest!

Hi, sorry for late reply :)

I got a cash card with my natwest account, i dont have one for my yorkshire bank account, they only give me 10% anyway (yorkshire bank) so natwests interest is ok with me.

im not very up to date with banking things, i just dont think its safe to do banking online though. and yeah , i know you're not stalking me :)
