I took my cat to my local Vets for his annual shots. He saw that my cat needed some teeth taken out, and descale and polish and mentioned that they were doing the Pet smile month promotion during September. In addition to the free dental check up, they gave me 20% discount off the cost of the dental procedure, saving me about £40!!!!!!!0

I know someone has already stated this but remember this is only a free CHECKUP. If they do find anything expect to dig very deep into your pockets. The poster above got a 20% saving of £40 so the bill was actually £200. Don't have the checkup unless you are able/prepared to spend this kind of money.0

you can call in and have the checkup so you're aware of the problems and can then budget and plan for when you can fix it. you're not obliged to do anything even if the vet finds a problem.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -

Have searched the site for a list of participating vets, but can't find it. Is there a list?

Thanks for this advice, going to make an appointment with my vet for a free check. My !!!!! has been walking away from her food which is not like her, she's had a lot of dental work done lately so I need reassurance that there is nothing wrong.0

I'm trying some Logic Oral Hygiene Gel some other vets recommend as I don't fancy the anaesththetic for her or the COST.0 -
To Daisy Bell - Its a marketing tool - you have to give some details and possibly sign up to some marketing bumph and then they give you a list of local vets. as previous posters have pointed out, the vet that you visit may not be participating (mine isnt) and you can bet your last £1 that the treatment isnt Free!!!

I took my 3yr cat to my local vets on Friday and he gave her a free checkup- she is fit and healthy wih no dental issues.:DHe advised me to brush her teeth twice a day? (does anyone else do this, as i thought it a bit extreme? i'd rather not have my fingers in he mouth!)0

Hi. Didn't know about this until I read this post, so thank you very much. Our usual vet is participating therefore we have booked both our cats in. We were due to have them checked next month anyway so this has saved us some money. Thanks again. MrsCatLover, York x :T0

What's this about?[/title]
PetSmile Month is an initiative that provides a free dental check-up for your pet as well as advice on treatment and prevention. There are over 1,000 participating vets in the UK.
The cost of a dental check-up varies per practice but it should roughly be a saving of around £15. The initiative will run until the end of September, though certain practices may offer the free check-up for longer.

The free check-up is primarily for dogs and cats, though some vets will make exceptions, so it's worth asking.

To book, simply find out where your nearest participating vet is and call them to book an appointment.
Thanks to crazyterrier2000 for spotting this great deal!

This is truly a great offer
I only had to travel 4 miles to my nearest clinic.
They were very friendly and gave a lot of unhurried advice about dental care for my cat and much more
Plus they gave me a 750 gram bag of special cat food additive to try out to help her teethIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0
