What's this about?[/title]
PetSmile Month is an initiative that provides a free dental check-up for your pet as well as advice on treatment and prevention. There are over 1,000 participating vets in the UK.
The cost of a dental check-up varies per practice but it should roughly be a saving of around £15. The initiative will run until the end of September, though certain practices may offer the free check-up for longer.

What pets is it aimed at?[/title]
The free check-up is primarily for dogs and cats, though some vets will make exceptions, so it's worth asking.

How do I book?[/title]
To book, simply find out where your nearest participating vet is and call them to book an appointment.

During September participating veterinary practices are providing FREE dental checks for pets. They are also offering advice on treatment and prevention and there will be information leaflets and the chance to discuss dental concerns with members of staff.
Postcode check box for practces near you who are participating.

Having just spent £55 having one of my chinchilla's teeth treated for burrs, I was hoping this would include small pets so I could get my other chinnies checked, but apparently not.
Almost £15 of it was for the priviledge of having the vet weigh my chinnie and look in his mouth to confirm what I told him was the problem ..... and all done in less than 10 minutes.0 -
Wouldnt like to put my hand near my cats mouth think ill skip this one for the sake of the vet.0

Unfortunately my local vet is not taking part in this event this year but it's great if your local vet is. A few years ago I took my old dog to this and he was given a free finger toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste and some special chews (all quite expensive to buy). I'm not saying they will be giving the same goodies away this year, but you might get something as well as the free check up. It's good practice for your dog to get used to being handled by a vet too...0

I've made a note of the results for my girlfriend (well, her cats, really) but I thought someone should state the obvious - this is for a free CHECK, and not for free treatment.
Any difference? You bet there might be!0 -
I just took my cat to vets on Friday as he lost 5-6 of his front small teeth they are the size of 2-3 mm, I didnt know about this offer.
Lucky we got no charge I thought it was down to a recent visit to have his annual jabs and also a previous visit due to him not eating
Just checked that site and they dont do the free check although 2 other vets do0 -
will pass this onto my sister0
