REALLY need some advice re housing benefits...please xxx

Hello, hope someone can help me-

ok i have been on income support since the middle of March and i have been recieving some but not the full entitlement of housing benfit. I have been chasing them up and 4 weeks ago was asked to take in my award letter which i did.
Up until today i have heard nothing so i rang them again. The wonem who i spoke to said a letter has been sent out and i need to now bring in my p45 or my last wage slip from my previous employer from march. I was only employed by them for 2 weks as childcare issure and stupid hours forced me to leave-i got paid but never recieved my p45 or wage slip.
Anyway now they are saying without this my benefit all together will stop!!! I get £730 a month and my rent alone is £500!!! I am really upset. I have spoken to my ex employers head office who are going to see what has gone on and to the inland rev-(who say they cant send out a replacement p45 lost on post or noT)
Without these my money from them will stop,

Im not actually sure why they even need to see my p45 as i only earnt £177 with them!!

Does anyone know who i can talk to re this??

I am bit lost as to what they are doing to be honest but looks like perhaps they didn't know about your earnings at all?

If you are on Income Support, this is a primary benefit and we are obliged to follow their dates. So if you have been awarded this, then HB are required to use it!

We can only suspend a claim where we believe that there is likely to be an overpayment. So in practice, if we pay you for all of May say, and then find out in July that you had a change in your circumstances for perhaps 2 weeks in March, we can't stop your July payment as the overpayment has happened. Yes, we will ask for information for that period and if you fail to provide it, we can cancel your claim back to the change but would then apply underlying entitlement (the benefit that you would have been entitled to)!

I would contact and ask to speak to a supervisor and ask for what reason can't they follow the IS decision? They won't be able to give you a reason and so they are in the wrong!
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

All views expressed in my posts are my own opinions and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.
  • It seems all daft-im just sooooooo confused to why they need to see my p45!? I told them as soon as i got employed then as soon as i became unemployed-i have neve r with held information and now i feel as of an error with my ex employed and them sending out my p45 im going to get punished. Im just really annoyed as i do everything by the book-if they need extra infor they have it right away etc.
Im in an absolute panic over what im going to do about money now i actually feel sick with worry x
