Have just planted 1 potato cut in 3 last night. It had chitted in 3 places. Looked in my little book and pots are meant to be done by April. Will I still get anything or am I way too late?0

I am by no means an expert lol but potatoes seem to be pretty fool proof, we planted one in a pot a few weeks ago with my DD and that is shooting up quite happily. also i know you can plant some quite late so they are ready for xmas dinner so i reckon we'll be fine, just keep earthing them up and keep your fingers crossed!0

You should be OK, the weather and soil are only just warming up. You will have spuds later in the year - enjoy!

i've been growing some in grow bags. i read you are supposed to cover them with soil and then when the sprouts come up cover with another layer of soil. but when i went to put some more soil in lots of teeny tiny flies came out of the bag. is this potato blight? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

I promise u., u will know if u've got a nasty infection on your potatoes. Last year cause it was so damp (probably aided by me over watering before the rain) my potatoes and tomatoes got a nasty fungal infection. Easily sorted with a spray once I figured out what it was but u couldn't miss it.0

This might sound daft, and I'm a first time grower so be nice, but.... what is chitting?
I'm planning to plant some potatoes up in bags this weekend, and was wondering what is a good varity to choose? Ideally I'd like some small ish ones (do you get small pots in late summer or is that only early varieties?), but something a bit different from the usual supermarket suspect
Any ideas/help would be great!
thank you0 -
Chitting is when you leave your potatoes somewhere cool, dry and light and let them develop wee strong sprouts on them. Then you plant them. Someone will give you more info now that I have bumped this, hopefully.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
