if you take them back to where you got them from , they usually fix them for free if its a simple job.
pop in and ask them .
good luck.0 -
Have you got any jewellers screwdrivers (you sometimes get some in xmas crackers) you should be able to tighten the screw enoughto last until you can get to the optician where you bought them. Add a bit of clear nail policy to the screw to prevent it from loosening in the future.0

Laneyboo - I've had a couple of occasions when I've needed replacement lenses or frames. Unfortunately in this day and age it's actually cheaper to buy a bundle. My last set would have cost £99 plus an exhorbitant fitting fee to stick my old lenses in the same broken frame.
When boots does BOGOF £99 inc lenses it usually makes more monetary sense to get a new set. I stick my oldies in the recycling box - because my mum's bought HSA for me I get free glasses anyway and change them twice a year. This way I donate 4 pairs a year = )Tim0 -
Often there is a screw to undo the frameto allow you to stick the lens back in. I got a tiny screwdriver in a cracker years ago that I kept for fixing my glasses. My frame snapped right in the corner recently and it is held very neatly together with some glue and a very slim piece of sellotape. DH is very good at making a neat job of this so I'm hoping I'll get another year or so out of them.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

phew!! thankyou everyone i was thinking we would need to fork out a load of cash for a new pair! I know someone in the local specsavers where he got his glasses so will go in with OH and see if they can fix them up for him for freeI LOVE MSE! :money:0

They shouldn't charge for popping back in a lens or tightening screws etc. If they do, try another optician. Good service means more customers, so a simple job like that shouldn't be a problem. (I've done it myself before I had my amazing cracker screwdriver!)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Yes, it's wonderful what they can manage to fix! Optical Express once came through for me, when I took them my very expensive twisted knot of metal (I'd been sitting in the centre of the back seat of a bus, when the driver slammed on the brakes - I was thrown up the aisle and my glasses went first!) and they managed to reshape them in approx 5 minutes into a pair of perfectly wearable frames which, though they were never quite the same again, lasted another 18 months until I was planning to replace them anyway

I'm forever 'popping' into specsavers to ask them to unmangle DD's glasses - never a problem for them.
would love to know what she does with them - she's been through 4 pairs in two years!!

Hi, Laneyboo. I also have a tiny screwdriver (couple of ££ from Specsavers) and a very natty one that is held in the corkscrew on my swiss army knife. Invaluable for all us speccy 4 eyes! :rotfl:
One of the screws on mine has come loose, and now won't tighten and hold in the lens any longer (metal frames). DH put a thin line of superglue around the edge of the lens (the bit that sticks inside the frame IYKWIM) replaced the screw and held that with a small blob of glue. Now they should last me a few more months until I can bring myself to spend over £100 on another pair
BTW, DH had to do the job, as without my specs I can't see a hand in front of my face :rotfl: :rotfl:

Those little screwdrivers are very useful - usually get a set in pound shops. I bought a glasses repair kit in Morrison's though - only 49p for a little box with a tiny screwdriver and more importantly, 4 screws! Also has a couple of oval foam self-adhesive shapes which I assume are for cushioning uncomfortable nose pieces, and also two little rubber rings, which I haven't managed to work out a function for
It was one of those useful bits & bobs Morrison's often have hanging from plastic wotsits on the shelves.

Can get them quite a bit cheaper than this, Tim. Might even be cheaper than having HSA. Penny, don't even think about spending that much! Check out the Great Cheap Glasses Hunt http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=980721#post980721
This thread discusses all the pros (lots) and cons (very few) of getting specs online too (so let's not bother in this thread!). My specs now cost me between £15 and £40 (depending on the frames) despite my having to get thin lenses because of my coke-bottle astigmatism. Oh yes, and the 2 pairs I got from Goggles4U came with extra nosepieces and screws.0
