Had Debit card details stole, security advice pls

Hiya Tech heads .......... good morning and thanks for taking the time to look in.

Just yesterday I noticed that all my money from my bank account (and more)has been stolen and have come to the conclusion that some hacker has got my information via a site that I have purchased something from.

I think my pc is pretty secure but I have none of my personal details stored on it anyway, not even my real name, so I dont think the problem is there. I have a very up to date AV software, firewall (tested and protecting) using Adware scanned yesterday and only 2 things found (nothing critical)Do I need any more protection??? if so what???

Have been to pcpitstop and nothing to report there.

What measures can I take to stop this happening again??

AVG antivirus and windows firewall, will take advantage of the toolbar ... thanks for that Browntoa.

I was already reading through MALWARE/SPYWARE REMOVAL GUIDE and had already scanned pc for spyware and nothing critical found but for peice of mind I will do as you advice .... thanks

needed to run them in "safe mode" as it tells in the thread, otherwise they may no get removed properly.

I would not rely on the Windows firewall, it does not warn you if something is trying to access the internet

replace it with Kerio

it is a fully working version despite them calling it an "Evaluation" copy and it is FREE !!

the first time you use programs it will ask if you want to allow access

also , go into Internet Explorer

1)click on "tools" and then " Internet options"

2)Click on the "advanced" tab

3)Scroll down to the "Security" section and then tick the boxes for "Do not save Encrpted pages" and the one underneath for "empty temporary internet files folder"

then click on the "Apply" button box on the bottom right

this will ensure that once you have finished any online banking or shopping that ALL traces are removed when you shut down Internet explorer

The Opera browser; http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/ has contained an anti-phishing element for some time now, built into the address bar.
Plus, it's easy to clear away your web traces once you have completed your transaction.

Thanks Donnie, I have tried using Opera b4 and after using IE for the las 10 years I found it hard to get along with .... maybe didnt give it a long enough run ....... old dogs new tricks sort of thing, have installed trust toolbar for now but thanks for your advice, its greatly appreciated.

Ok have followed instructions as advised and everything seems to be ok. Nothing naughty was found so as far as I know pc is clean and safe. Just to recap this is what I have running or use for security and safety :-

AVG anti virus
Kerio personal firewall
Comodo trust toolbar
Windows own popup blocker
Ad-aware
CCleaner <

Ewido anti-spyware.

All up to date and running smoothly. Are there anyother measures I need to take ???

no thats all fine, if you get problems turn off the windows Firewall as Kerio has taken over it's functions

remember to run update/run Ewido in normal mode from time to time, same with Ad-aware
