Having a baby in rented accommodation

I have rented privately for 5 years mainly due to fact I will never get a mortgage but have 3 children and the youngest was 3 months when i moved in.
It's great as the other posters have said - no worrying about the boiler etc, I have decorated with LL permission and when I told him i was looking for a 4 bed house as my girls were sharing - the LL put in a loft conversion!!! Can't say fairer than that.
I woulds however check with the agency whether proerties you are viewing are for investment or whether they are people who can't sell trying to hold off for a bit - if you want a long term home you need someone who looks at it as an investment not a quick way of making money.
As i say to my children a home is where ever they are and who cares who actually owns the bricks its what is inside that matters.:rotfl:Been stupid but have no regrets starting to slowly sort my finances now the kids are growing0 -
Blimey some of you have got decent landlords!
I don't have a child but I'd say the main downside of renting is the lack of security. 2 months notice was stressful enough (the new place fell through at 4 weeks) without a child. If you can find a long term let (maybe a wanted advert in a local paper?) you might be ok. Having to move every few years can be a real pain.
Other thing: some LLs won't accept kids although it's more common to decline pets than kids round these parts.0 -
I had DS when we were in rented accomodation where we lived for 2 yrs before I got pg. Landlord gave us notice to move when he was 10 weeks :-( The lack of security is a bit of an issue but I think we were just unlucky....0
