What happens if a parcel is returned to me as the sender please?

I had a message from a buyer stating he had not received his item or a postal card if out. I checked the Royal Mail website and entered the tracking number and it states the item is being returned to sender (me). Im not sure what happens next because if I send again im guessing that will be at my expense and the same thing could happen again. On the proof of postage receipt it states confirmed address: no which I do not know if this is relevant? The buyer says he can only make it to the depot one day a week so I think he did get card but forgot to go so not sure how to proceed. Any ideas please? Thank you

You will be asked to sign for the package as if it had been sent to you by someone else

You will not be charged. - unless it's being returned because you didn't pay enough postage and it was refused. Unlikely if you were using the recorded service - it should have been checked when you posted it.

If you send it again you will be charged again

Thank you but I was more concerned about the cost of resending back to the buyer and this maybe happening again.

I would wait until you receive it and see what the label says regarding why it was returned to you - double check you wrote the correct address if it says invalid address etc, then you can decide who is going to cover the cost.

Ask the buyer to confirm their address (as perhaps they moved but didn't update Paypal??).

I would get royal mail to confirm that a card was left, and then ask the buyer if he'd like to pay again to have it re-sent.

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Unfortunately there is no way of knowing for sure. Some areas are notoriously bad for carding, others less so.

Thank you soolin.. in your opinion if it seems the postman did not leave card who should pay to resend me or the buyer? Thank you

There really is no good way of finding out or ever knowing. You could get written confirmation from the post office saying that a card was left (although they'd probably lie!!), and thus use this to state that your buyer just didn't bother collecting it, so should re-pay if they want you to send again.

Possibly the buyer has the same postman as me, I bought a book on ebay, I have 100% feedback so did the seller.

Almost a week goes by no book, I sent him an email asking if/when he posted it. Told me he posted it the day after i paid.

Sent by recorded delivery so he checks the website, Says at my sorting office, I went to collect it but its not there.
Following day, seller emails me & says its been returned to him. All this within the time it should still have been at my sorting office available for collection.

Yet another complaint against my postman. Doesnt leave calling cards.

A good seller will now ask the buyer to confirm their address and ask whether the buyer would like the item resent. IMHO most buyers at this stage offer to pay. If they don't but still want the item, I send them the tracking number. I follow this up by checking the tracking number 2 days later (or whatever is relevant for the postage service used) and informing them via email/message where the item is. At least this 'hand holding' seems to ensure the parcel is eventually delivered.
