Finding the right pram at the right price.

Options
My baby is due in July. Im looking to buy a new pram. I`ve been looking at reviews on the net, but still dont know which pram to get and were to get it from. I do like the Quinny Buzz. I want a flat pram. I already have a car seat, so dont need one of them. All advice would be greatfully appreciated. And any others who are also looking please add your information for other mums and dads. Thanks.
Loving this site.

If you like the quinny buzz, go for it. Buy a used carrycot off eBay (for all the time they are used, they are usually in very good condition) and you're all set.

Go to the likes of Mothercare (and any other pram shop) and road test them in the shop. This is what my daughter did a couple of months ago as she didn't know whether she wanted a 3 or 4 wheeler, what style she wanted etc. In other words get get a feel for what suits you best, it worked for my daughter (she bought an O Baby).

My baby is also due in July and I've drawn up 2 lists, things the pram must have and things I'd like and have used that to narrow them down quite a bit.

My "must haves" are lie properly flat for a newborn (or have the ability to add a carrycot), to face me, be light enough for me to lift in and out of the car boot without breaking my back, to fold in one piece (once passed the adding of a carrycot), have a decent suspension so that the baby doesn't get shoogled too much on the cobbles and be narrow enough to fit on the bus and in the daft narrow lift in the shopping centre here.

I'm considering a second hand Bugaboo and the Petite Star Kurvi. I liked the look of the Mura and the Quinny Buzz, but I'd struggle with them on the bus and I think they both fold in seperate parts.

i am still using my mothercare trenton delux travel system (2 years on) and i think it really is great, however the one thing this has brought to my mind is storage, as the 'buggy' is more like a tank and i am just glad i have a mondeo as it fills most of the boot!

so the one bit of advice i would give is look at how small it can fold against how big your boot is on your car or where you will store it in your house
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Talk to someone in a pram shop! Only you know what your needs are, how heights fit you, usability etc.

There will be people on here who love their Buzz. My friend does. I looked after her baby for the weekend and found it huge, bulky, heavy and didn't like the design of the seat. Prams are very much horses for courses, so go and find a Quinny Buzz and have a play! You may love it, you may hate it, you may find something you love even more or it may make you realise that it HAS to be the Buzz!

All the best with the pregnancy.

Yes, do go and have a play with it. I drooled over a loola for weeks and weeks. Finally bought one from eBay, excitedly tore open the box, got DD strapped in, took it out a spin.... and HATED it! So I sold it and bought a Joolz. Hated that the first time too, but now I love it.

    Hi there,

Hubby and I have just bought a pram for our daughter, due in September.

My advice would be to think about how you will use the pram:
    • will you have to go up a lot of stairs? eg do you live in a flat? If yes, small and light is probably best
    • will you be on rough ground a lot of the time? eg trips to the park / walking the dog. If yes, you'll probably want something with big wheels so little one doesn't get jiggled to death
    • will you use it on public transport? If yes, you'll find something light, narrow and manourverable (sp?) better
    • will you travel most places in the car? If yes, perhaps it won't matter if the pram is heavier/bulkier
    • what is your budget?
    • do you need your car seat to be able to click in and out of the pram chassis?
    • How much storage space do you have for the pram when it is up / down?
    • How easy is it to put up / down? can you do it with one hand?
    • does it feel sturdy?
Like others have said, test drive a few in the shops and read reviews. We have used the Which site to help us choose. You do have to subscribe, but sometimes they have cheap subscription offers. Their advice and independent testing is very good.

In the end, we chose the Britax B Smart 3 wheeler, with a carry cot and car seat that click in and out of the frame. Its brilliant and suits our needs very well. We can't wait to take the baby out in it! :j

  • Great choice Ali! The Britax B Smart is fab. I'd pick it over the Quinny.

The Quinny Buzz is one of the most popular prams on the market, and it's for a good reason. They are very versatile, the frame isn't too heavy and they look stylish. As well as this, they dont give too much trouble. I've sold loads over the past few years and very few ever gave an issue. It can fold with ther seat on, but only while facing forwards.

For me personally though, I'm more of an umbrella-fold stroller kinda girl. I like things compact!
