Howdens kitchen quote

HI,

I've just been given a quote from a kitchen fitter for a Howdens Burford Cream kitchen with Laminate beech-block effect tops. Having browsed around this site, I know that list price and real price on Howdens can be very different. This looks suspiciously like list price and I would appreciate a second opinion from someone in the know.

Total cost is £3910 (excluding fitting) for the following:

end panels:
High 3
larder 2
Low 2

High cupboards:
600 4
600 hob 1
1000 1
631 Corner 1

Low cupboards:
600 1
600 oven 1
600 draw 1
1000 LH corner 1
800 RH corner 1
1000 1
Dishwasher door 1
full height larder 500 1

Utilities:
slim Dishwasher 1
1.5 Sink 1
single oven 1
gas hob 1
mixer Tap 1


Hope my description makes sense. I was expecting something at least £1000 cheaper, if not more. What should I be expecting to pay?

Really whatever the most competitive quote you can find is.

Why do you expect to receive Howden's trade discounts? Who are you going to call when something isn't right? Are you going to measure up your room, order the kitchen and organise it all?

As you can tell I have no problems justifying why we receive a trade discount. All fitters/installers will put a mark up on what they get it for. Money makes the world go round. Best advice is to get as many quotes as possible for the exact same Howden's kitchen, then you will see if someone is trying to have your pants down. If you find a mug willing to give it to you for what they get it for-happy days!

Hi Pete,

We've just had a quote through the builder for a Burford Cream kitchen too! Ours came in at £3360 (+VAT)for:

6 base units, 5 wall units (all varying sizes, but gives you a rough idea), end panels, cornice, pelmet, worktops, oven, hob and extractor, s/s splashback, and laminate flooring. (Plus fitting)

Rather hoped it might have been a little less too, but...

We also looked at Howdens( customer service was awful) for our kitchen also the Burford one, ours came in at approx £3500 ( no dishwasher), so we went to B & Q, got fantastic customer service from them, and was quoted £3600 for near enough the same type, but waited to pay for it till they had discount weekend, so got 15% off the price too, bargain!:rotfl:

It isnt really poor customer service, just they're set up for dealing with the trade. Like to deal with people who know what they're talking about.

We have a Howdens kitchen which has been great - however their initial quote via our builder was just over £4k, which after some whinging by me was ultimately reduced to £2.5k so don't just take their first quote as gospel.

Lucky for me my cousin is a builder so he passed on the discount. Saved £2k on a £6k quote by getting the appliances ourselves, i suspect your quote seems overpriced because their appliance prices are high.
