Car Insurance Cancellation For A New Driver

Ok so I passed my test, went on to do the Pass Plus, bought a car and obviously got insurance but I've found

a] I don't really enjoy driving
b] Going by train is much much cheaper for me (Marriage coming up too)

I was kinda shoehorned into driving as everyone I know does but anyway...

If I have 14 days to cancel (I'm 7 days in) what's the best way of going about cancelling this. I'm with Asda / Close Premium Finance.

Do I simply send in the cancellation forms? I assume there's a £75 fee from what I read but at least I'm out of the contract.

I have a garage to lock the car up ready for sale.

Thanks for your help: It's one of those situations where people I know think I'm crazy to want to give up to drive so I'm glad there's the Martin Lewis oracle that is these forums :)

    Hi there

Phone the insurance company (there should be a telephone number in the policy). You don't have to give a reason for cancellation, but you do need to make sure they are aware within the 14 days.

They will tell you whether they need the documents back (which they should, but they don't always bother) and what the charge will be.

You also need to send your car tax back (with a SORN declaration to say the car is off the road) to get your money back on that.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

  • Hi there: cheers for the confirmation.

Car tax back to the DVLA right?

I might just sell the car to be rid of the burden really
