Voluntary Redundency

Hi
We are under the threat of redundency and work have asked for anyone who wants voluntary redundencey to put their names down. Now, how would I stand with 'signng on' if I did this. What I mean is - could I claim for job seekers allowance straight away?
Thank you

You would probably be OK
The JC would look at it pragmatically, i.e a certain number have to be made redundant from x company, some have put themselves forward, there should be no sanction against them as, by their action, they may have saved even more redundanciesThe World come on.....0 -
this will depend on the content of the letter that you get as a result of redundancy, if it mentions the word volunatry you are unlikely to get anything in the way of benefits. Speak to your HR department who will clarify, my company always write it as you have been selected rather than you chose. This is about the law rather than someone taking a pragmatic approach.0

Yes I agree.
I volunteered along with 5 others in 2005 and nowhere in our letters of redundancy were the words voluntary or volunteer mentioned. It was also part of the deal that we could get free training for any of a long list of new skills and trades up to a maximum cost of about £2k. I did the LGV theory test and LGV2 followed a few months later by LGV1 and I haven't been out of work since but maybe I was lucky.
I should add that we were paid 12 weeks severance pay in addition to redundancy deal and I think we were told that we had to sign on straight away to get NI credits but wouldn't get any JSA or equivalent for the first 12 weeks. As it turned out, all of us started agency work the Monday after we left the old job. But that was 2005 and before the credit crunch.:(Never trust a financial institution.
