Whats the best number to renew Tax Credits?

Im going to Call and renew our Tax credits but would like to know what is the best number(not 0845) to call them?

My pack came with a Address to send back as the Netherton Merseyside tax office.

The only number to use is the main Tax Credit Helpline on 0845 300 3900. There are unofficial alternative numbers to be found on saynoto0870 if you don't wish to call an 0845 number but the cost difference is negligible as 0845 calls cost the same as a local call.

The address on your renewals pack is the postal address for renewal forms where it will be scanned through a machine reader and onto the National Tax Credit system but I would advise calling the main Tax Credit Helpline.

Taxcredithelp, the cost difference is potentially HUGE. An increasing number of people, often the most vulnerable people in society, don't have access to a landline but rely on mobile phones. Mobile phone contract inclusive numbers are for landline and mobile numbers only - they do not extend to 0845 numbers. This is why there is a big campaign to make government use landline numbers. 0845 numbers make it more difficult for the most vulnerable in society to transact with government.
  • It's all well and good saying ring the helpline......I've been trying for weeks now and all I get is the pre-recorded message "I'm sorry we're really busy right now...........good bye"! On a couple of occasions I've got the press 1 to renew, 1 to carry on, I'll transfer you now........then the pre-recorded sorry we're too busy! Aaaaaaargh!! I must have about 50 1min 30 secs phone calls on my phone bill! Anyone else having any problems getting through?
