Boiler question

This has probably been asked many times before. My boiler works well for the Central Heating (although sometimes it doesn't follow the auto programmed times and needs resetting), but for the water the temperature is cold for a few minutes, then hot for a few minutes, cold then hot, cold then hot..
I have recently bought a house and the boiler that was installed (about 2 - 5 years ago) is a Ferroli combination boiler (Modena 102). I have had a plumber to look at it and without any testing said that this was the heat exchanger that is full of scale which causes the boiler to overheat. I dont know about boilers, but apparently a device needs to be fitted to catch the scale, which my boiler doesn't have. The advice he gave me was to buy a Bosch boiler for £2000, all labour included.
I have been decorating for 6 months now and the inlaws is coming to visit. Last I want is mum in law running around the shower being chased by cold water - in fact I don't even want to picture it. I don't have £2000 spare for a new boiler. Anyone with advice?

On a Feroli, if heat exch was full of scale, you wouldnt get water out the tap.
Is pressure guage reading 1.5 bar ? It could simply be needing topped up.
Get authorised Ferroli agent or them selves to look at it, Cost wont be anywhere near £2K0 -
Thanks budgetflyer,
Yes the presurre guage is reading 1 - 1.5 bar when not heating. This became worse after my radiators where taken off to skim the walls. Could the radiator balance influence the hot water supply to the taps?0 -
Any other suggestions out there? I have contacted ferroli, but have been waiting two days now for them to get back to me...0

Alternative is go on to British Gas 3 star. They will take your faulty boiler on for around £26-£30 per monthfor 1st year and fix it (price reflects boiler faulty ) thereafter at normal 3 star rate0
