Tuning TV/Freeview

Just trying to install a new freeview box on the bedroom TV but when it comes on the screen won't stop scrolling diagonally - can't make out a thing! It seems to have tuned itself as the sound is perfect - so what's the problem with the visual - scart/aerial/other?

Thanks :o

Assuming the lead hasn't failed, and that the connections at both ends are good......

    Faulty Freeview box
    Faulty TV

Therefore, can you connect the Freeview box to another TV and see if it works there?
Can you connect any other device in the house to the TV and see if that works?
Can you connect the aerial (currently plugged into the Freeview box?) to the TV and see if you get the regular analogue channels?

What happens if you take the SCART lead out and reverse it?

    - must always eliminate scart first, unplug - replug both ends !

I've unplugged and replugged the scart in but into the same ends - might try swapping it.
The aeriel isn't great (the end keeps coming off) but as the sounds so good then I didn't think it could be that.
The freeview box is brand new (we had the same problem with the old box which is why we thought to replace it!)
I've tried different TV's and same problem - and I can get analogue channels when the freeview box is off.
    Thanks :o

Sounds like you are tuning in to a spare channel to watch your freeview box.
Use the scart connection and set your TV to the appropriate AV input.
    Also fix your aerial plug.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Which area are you? Maybe something to do with digital switchover?

When you refer to the aerial - are you talking about the RF lead going IN to the Freeview box, or an RF lead BETWEEN the freeview box and the TV?

With the SCART connected, and/or an RF lead between the two, are you DEFINITELY selecting the correct AV input on the TV to display the SCART input?

The 'old' freeview box did the same - for how long? From new, or did it exhibit this behaviour after it had been working OK for a while?

You've tried with more than one other TV, with the same result on every one? That suggests this Freeview box is at fault, but....

Using the same SCART input on the TV, can you connect a DVD or VHS player and confirm the SCART input on the TV is working properly?
  • Have you tried a different SCART lead?

another thought, have you got more than one AV/scart lead connected. I've got an old TV with a scart connection to the rear and phono sockets to the front. With a live video feed "entering" the TV via the scart and one via the phono leads (ie video via the scart & PS2 via the phonos) my TV's picture use to scroll diagonally, as it was trying to make sense of both video signals at the same time. The solution - turn one of the video feeds off.
    My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
    My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
    My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

Just a thought, if the AV socket being used is set to S-Video rather than Composite or RGB then, you can get the scrolling effect when a composite source from a STB is used.
Try another AV socket as a previous poster has said, or check your AV settings.

OP seems to have gone away though.

At the moment it seems to be the scart - I've swapped the ends and the pictures appeared but it's all pink! We've bought another this evening but haven't yet tried that.

I'll be back if it doesn't work but thank you all very much for your kind help and suggestions.
