Signed contract with Talk Talk 3 days ago but want to cancel - what do I do?

While I was away for the weekend my partner had a Talk Talk rep visit. My partner signed a contract for Talk Talk broadband without thinking we still have 15 months left of our BT one.
I was quite mad and told him to phone up and cancel. Firstly he phoned Talk Talk who told him they don't have his details yet, then he phoned the rep and they told him that they haven't processed the paperwork yet.
Anyway my stress levels are sky high, I need to get this contract cancelled as we cannot afford to pay both BT and Talk Talk.
Is there a legal cooling off period? Is it worth me writing a letter and sending it recorded explaining I want to cancel?
Please help me!

As I understand it if it was a 'cold caller' visit ie he turned up at your door uninvited, rather than by appointment you have a 7 day cooling off period. I'd send the recorded delivery letter now.0

It probably is, but I'd write the letter and get it in the Post Recorded Delivery asap anyway.0

Ok, thank you for your help, I was away all day today however I will send the letter tomorrow.
Yes it was a cold caller. Just wish I was there when the caller came round, I would have told him where he could stick his contract. My daughters are my world0 -
Poor you emerald_starcat.
My DH did exactly the same thing. Had a cold caller a the door for Talk Talk and changed us from BT to them, we stuck with them for a while but the customer service was awful when we had problems with their broadband service. You definitely have a cooling off period, send your letter off quick- next day delivery, wish we had. We ended up paying to get out of our contract several months later so a lesson learned by my hubby...don't listen to cold callers.0 -
I had a chap called Mohammed from Talk Talk come round trying to pursuade me to switch.I was polite and offered him a bacon sandwich but refused to switch providers.0

You have 7 calendar days to cancel. Talk Talk are obliged to inform you of this in writing. If they have not done so, the entire contract is null and void.
