An apology about the new look site launch

Hi folks,
I just wanted to write an apology to everyone over the slowness today.
I wrote my post about the new site launch on friday and asked it to be put live today when the forum changed across - as I've been away filmed.
That's why I haven't responded to any of your posts. Had I been here I would've postponed the launch once I saw the slowness issues, and I am very sorry you've all had to go through that. The team are in action now and we will focus on speeding things up.
Also just to say the hideous beige line at the top of the page shouldn't be their either. It'll be gone tomorrow - we've worked hard on the new design and that isn't part of it.
Hopefully then you'll see that the new look grows on you - is clearer and easier to read and starts much higher up the page. The team have done a fantastic job on the new look and I've no doubt once it beds in everyone will realise just how good it is. Do give us a couple of days to get it all in order though.
We'll also be starting a new discussion thread - one that isn't full (i hope) of "its too slow".
Martin
PS about facebook
I was rather bemused to read some people mentioning they were worried about the privacy issue of having share with facebook links in the first post. I think that's based on a misunderstanding...
1. We've had these links for a long time, they're just more prominent now.
2. Everything on this forum is public - it is searchable on google - so if you don't want anything here to be public don't post it. MSE forums are in the top ten UK social networking site. So there is no increased risk from facebook links.
3. We don't have identifiers on MSE (unless you use your name) even if someone shares it - unless you use the same name, it doesn't say which is your post. Also the only way people on facebook could see it is if you choose to post it yourself on your page.
Hope this puts your mind at rest.

I must have missed all the slowness...but that could be because my internet is always slow lol
Everyone expects teething problems (well most people) when there is a big change so tbh I don't think any apologies are in in order, these things happen.
Just to say I've been using the new look for a while now and find it MUCH easier to use. I'm dyslexic and the cleaner less cluttered design makes it far easier for me to read. So a big thumbs up here0 -
Rome wasn't built in a day, don't sweat the small things Martin. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

It isn't your fault Martin, things will be back to normal as soon as your techie bods get to work!
Many thanks for the new look forum, I really like it!................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -
Well, you have plenty of time to figure out how to stagger the introduction of the next new design to avoid it.;)
Trouble is, not many understand caching, and why it is slowing everything down, even though i thought Ian or webby explained it as best they could0 -
I don't think the forums are badly designed, sure there's a few things but we all have personal tastes don't we so you'll never please everyone.
I don't think the green is a problem, the light pale green in the left column and things is very inoffensive and works quite well, the green in the headers is a bit brighter and more in your face but to be fair its only in a few places and it does its job doesnt it.
I'm not keen on the thread stats box and think the information could be placed elsewhere but thats just me (what do the staff think of my idea in the previous thread? I posted a picture) and I think all the boxes on the right hand side clutter the place up but theyre useful and there for a reason. Would it be possible to have some kind of collapse button like the forum etiquette box has got but going horizontally so people could press it when they log in if they choose and have the boxes scoot off to the side so the forum fills the page? I think that would be a popular compromise.
A few people commented that the quote box only has three sides in ie, well i'm using chrome and i only see 2 sides. top and left. just thought you'd like to know
Oh and what beige line? I don't see one anywhere I don't think :S
In general its a big improvement, could just do with a few tweaks0 -
Apology appreciated, just for the fact you've acknowledged the problem as much as anything!
For me it is slower than a slow slow thing & doing my head in. But I have faith that it will improve
I also can't see a beige line and, generally, think the forums look better for the change

I love the new look site! It is fab, I have had to change back to the old one whilst the slowness it sorted but thats to be expected when you do a big change like you have!
Good luck everyone and Thank you to all posters xx0 -

Have to agree with these posts, no apologies needed, there will always be a settling in period and in a few days no-one will remember what the old style even looked like.
I like the clean new look and didn't like having to go back to the old style a couple of times to use BG tools and many thanks to MSE Ian who speedily sorted out the problem.0 -
Shame you felt the need to apologize because of all the moaners. There are always whingers whenever a well-loved website changes its look, people don't like change. They always get used to it fairly quickly. The new forum looks much better than the old 90s look, there are only a few minor bugs that need ironing out.poppy100

Bullcrap. Some of the people you're calling "moaners" happen to be web designers ourselves, and this new skin is badly incompatible with screen reading and accessibility for some of the visually-impaired readers.
NOT a case of "don't like change".Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0
