Mammogram recall

Please try not to worry. I've just had a mammogram and to be on the safe side they also did an ultasound and a biopsy with a long needle, just to make sure because I had found a lump which turned out to be a fibroid.
Like you I didn't want to overdo the worry without knowing was there anything to worry about.
I hope everything is ok, and it's perfectly possible it just didn't give a good view, but if it is bad, the sooner this is identified and treated, the better.0 -
I am revitilising this thread as I went for a random mammogram as the program is being extended to younger women from the age of 47 ( I am 48 in June).
Almost cancelled the mammogram because was petrified of actually having it ie boobs being squashed. However, it was all fine no problem and not painful at all.
Yesterday in the middle of cooking up a storm for friends coming round I received my mail (great Friday 13th) and have been asked to go back for further tests which could include further mammograms and ultrasound.
I am absolutely rigid with fear, all my friends knew something was wrong with me last night (weren't used to seeing me not eating - felt like I wanted to throw up). My husband is working abroad and just went back on Wednesday and is not due home for another 6 weeks. I want to sit down and cry my heart out but can't as eldest starts his GCSE's on Monday and don't want the kids to know unless there is really something to worry about.
But as I said I am literally sick with fear, a friend of mine is going with me who had breast cancer at the age of 45. She found a lump and it was graded as one of the worst cancers and she had a lumpectomy and then she had chemo and radiotherapy and she is now all clear - am focusing on this.
I physically cannot feel anything and have no changes in the breast area, I always have discomfort with left breast - they are fairly large and always find that the bones dig in particularly in left breast.
I am trying to be positive but it is very hard, I keep telling myself that if they have found something the chances are that is very early and treatable.
just wanted to sound off
((( hugs ))) to you and fingers crossed that everything will be ok.I know how you feel because I have been there myself.I was recalled at my very first mammogram, when I was 50.My DH had died a couple of months previously so I was still very stressed from that and by the time I got to the hospital,I was so petrified that I was nearly in tears.
I had a further mammogram and then ultrasound and when the doctor told me that everything was fine and there was nothing to worry about,I just burst into tears
The doctor and nurse were so nice and the relief was indescribable.
I have had the usual 3-yearly mammograms since then, the last one last year and thankfully everything has been normal and no more recalls, although I still worry every time until I get the ' all clear ' letter.0 -
            Dear all
Thankyou for your responses, my appointment is tomorrow at 2pm. My friend who had cancer and another who was referred for a lump were surprised that I got a letter and not a phone call so I am hoping that is a good sign. Not very good in situations like this just want to roll up into a ball andfor the world to go away. The fear keeps coming over me in waves even though I know that if they have caught something the chances are it's early and probably curable. Not having my husband here is the hardest thing for me I have never had to face anything like this before and it is ten times worse without hi
here.
Thank you for your support and bopefully I will be able to report back tomorrow with better news. Fingers crossed.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

I found a lump a couple of years ago and was sent by the GP to the hospital within a couple of days. I was 47 and pre menopausal. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound scan. The scan picked up several cysts which were sorted out there and then by the fluid being drawn off with a syringe. The sonographer (?) told me that the cysts appeared dark coloured on the scan as they were filled with fluid, a distinction that the mammogram didn't pick up so well, especially in younger women. I held it together throughout the appointment but was a weeping wreck (with relief) by the time I got back to the car.
I really hope that all goes well for you tomorrow OP.0 -
My mum has been recalled EVERY time she has had a mammogram. She always has to go to a hospital in London for an ultrasound, but they have never found anything.0

I think the thing playing on my mind is that a lot of the stories I have read about are ladies who have found lumps and gone for a mammogram and been given the all clear. In my case I didn't find a lump they have found something with the Mammogram and thats what is worrying me. I keep going through absolute fear and then periods of calm, if I have it then a least breast cancer if caught early enough is curable. I am hoping that if this is the case that the problem will be easily curable.
I am going in about 40 minutes for my appointment at 2pm. Also the other thing I have been told that in Northampton we are very lucky because they have got all the latest equipment and the care is second to none. (although I am sure that is the case at most of the breast clinics in the uk). My friend who is going with me showed me an article in the newspaper last week where the breast unit have just had a donation from Avon enabling them to buy the latest digital mammogram machine, you never know they may use that on me this afternoon. Also we have a breast cancer charity called Crazy Hats who I have supported in the last few years and they raise money for the local area and bought the unit a tattoo machine.
Fingers crossed.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

I understand 8% of women having their first mammogram are recalled *, many for technical reasons to do with picture quality. I had no symptoms and was recalled but clear.
Take care x

            Hi Everyone,
Well everything is fine - cannot tell you how relieved I am. They said I had a few spots on my left breast. Took another mammogram and a cone mammogram. Consultant came in and said that first off he wanted to tell me all was fine as far as he could see and he just wanted to prove it to me with an exam and ultra sound.
I am so relieved I could burst, unfortunately appetite is now back so the 9lb I lost over the weekend will probably be back by end of the week!!!£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

            Glad you got good news

I was in similar position to you - it was the mammogram that found 'it' not me. Apparently something as simple as the position of the radiation passing through the breast can mean it hits aligned parts of tissue that create the illusion of a larger mass - a different angle would look far less sinister. That's where the cone bit is meant to come in as it makes that far less likely
Now go enjoy some celebratory chocs and sod the weight lol0
