Thanks for all the replies, i have lots to go on now!

I called Russel & Cooke in Kingston this morning. Their quote was £650 plus VAT (£763), then the search fees were £300 and land registry £150 amongst a few other things..

Does this sound reasonable? Although i didn't really like the sound of the woman lol.

Sounds a bit expensive to me - they seem quite good, but other people here have suggested some other solicitors with whom they have had direct experience, so I would get quotes from them also before making a decision.

That's expensive. I've just completed so will dig out my fees for you to give you something to compare to
  • My experience with Convey Direct has been absolutely dreadful. I wish I had read the advice on this site of not using the large call centre type conveyancing companies. We all know how frustrating call centres can be - well this has been the worst of all! There is zero customer service and communication has been rude at best. Overall: Uncaring and incompetent.

    Hi there

I'm based in Redhill surrey and I am currently using a solicitors in Bristol called Convey Direct to handle both my sale and purchase. They are really good and I used them also 4 1/2 yrs ago when I moved to my current property. I find their rates reasonable and they are very prompt in replying to calls/questions etc and sending out paperwork.
