Fig tree help please
Hi,
I have a fig tree which i was given last year, thought i had lost it in the harsh winter we had as it was just literally a stick in the pot lo, however it is now thriving and has a bud like thing on it, is this actually a fig? the only way to describe it is a green ball / blob lol, took a picture but dont know how to get it on here!

Keep it well watered so it doesn't get stressed as they do have a tendency to drop their lovely fruit buds if they are stressed. Equally, don't overwater later in its development as they can suddenly split.
The bud is early enough to actually produce a fruit this year if you are lucky. When they arrive later in the year, they have a tendency to drop.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

We successfully grew figs in our south facing garden in Birmingham. They can fool you into thinking they're not growing until the leaves arrive in May but they then flourish with the right care. If you want to plant it in the garden, make sure you plant it into a base and sides of rubble/flag stones otherwise it will become too vigorous. Also, in the autumn take off all the figs left except the peanut sized ones - hard to do because you feel like you're getting rid of fruit. The tiny buds will become the fruit for next year. You might find the fruit isn't sweet enough for you. We cooked our less sweet ones in sugar syrup or dried them slowly in the airing cupboard.0
