Hello
Do you have more details? Make of car/price/colour etc?0 -
Buy What Car and check the target price.
Check internet brokers and print out their offers.
Tell the dealer you will be checking with his competitors as well.
In short know your market.
Edit:- New models or popular cars will have less haggle room.0 -
Definitely "know your market"
On the 2 occasions I've gone out to buy new recently I've done far better than broker or what car target prices. I did know what is achievable from spending time on car forums though.
I asked for as close to 10% as they could give me and we settled on 8% in the end on a BMW 1 series for my Mum, about £2600 discount. What car target price was saying only about £600 discount and the car brokers were advertising much the same. This was about 18 months ago when everyone had stopped spending money on anything non-essential.0 -
Contact several dealers and play them off against each other.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Check the likes of broadspeed.com
They are a 'front' for the inchcape group, so they will be supplying uk cars from one of their own uk dealers. Main dealers will laugh off internet sales as 'they dont price match internet imports', but remind them that broadspeed supply uk cars and you'll happily do business with them.
Be prepared to travel - use the manufacturers website to source similar used cars elsewhere in the country. Ask you local dealer to pricematch.
Also check autotrader too.
Be aware that often demo cars often arent that much cheaper than buying new OR are heavily spec'd with extras you dont want - you can end up with the dealer telling you that you are 'saving £5000' over the list price with extras, only to find there are £3K of extras you dont want and you can get £2K off the new car anyway.
Also, dont forget that most ex demos are six months old which means they are 2009 registered. The dealer will say this makes no difference come resale time but it does, so make sure you factor that in.
And, in large dealerships there will be new car salesmen and used car salesmen. It will not be in the new car salesmans interest to point you to a great deal on a used car and vice versa, so be aware of that.
Oh, and deals on new cars - you often get 'free servicing', interest free credit, a subsidised finance agreement or a finance contribution from the manufacturer. Often the value of these deals can offset the cost the price difference between buying new and buying used.0 -
Check on line car brokers like carfile to see new car discounts0
