Plumbing question

I hope our plumbing experts can help me.

I would appreciate an idea of how much it will cost to fit two new bathroom sink taps please. It's not a job that I want to tackle and I want an idea of the price before I start ringing local plumbers tomorrow.

Many thanks

Nile

Aprrox £50/£60 would be a average price.

Nile, you are always welcome to pm me.
A thankyou is payment enough .
  • Save yourself £50-60 Nile and try it yourself- Replacing basin taps

If you can't do it then call the plumber and tell him that you have already loosened the taps for him ;)

I agree with replacing it yourself Nile but be warned. I recently had a plumber replace some pillar taps in the kitchen (he was installing a boiler at the same time) and the thread on the taps that I supplied were about 1 inch longer than the originals which meant that he couldnt use the copper pipe supplying the tap without altering it.
So make sure that the taps are a direct replacement by removing the originals and taking them to the suppliers with you.
Otherwise consider using one of these flexible connectors

    Thanks for the replies.:T

The first phone call I made this morning, the plumber quoted £85 + VAT! I'll keep trying until I get a better price.

I know I could save money by a bit of DIY, but I like my bathroom as it is..........I'm bound to create havoc (and wreck the basin) if I try my hand at plumbing.:o

Nile, I hope you don't mind, but I also have a plumbing problem at the moment and thought I might take the liberty of using your thread. ;)

Basically the other day my washing machine filled up with water and none of it would empty out. I had to open the door and try to catch it all in a couple of buckets as it poured out!!! The remainder I had to scoop out with a jug.
I'm assuming the waste pipe has blocked up. Is this something I could do myself?
Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money

More like a problem with your washing machine pump, or other washer part(programmer).
You can test to see if if your waste pipe is blocked, by disconecting the flexible outlet and putting it over the sink and trying your washer again.

Agree with the above - or it could be as simole as the filter (if it has one) being blocked.

Bit hairy empyting it with a bucket!! Some machines will drain by taking the flexible waste pipe out of the standpipe / off the under sink manifold ... and laying it flat. Having made sure, of course, the end is out of the door!
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
