If I'm remembering the correct thread, you asked about Carer's Allowance and discussed the problems that you are having with your son regarding school and his behaviour, which is unpredictable and sometimes violent.

(If I have mixed you up with somebody else, I apologise - please correct me!)

You can claim Disability Living Allowance for your son if he has more care or mobility needs than another child of the same age, and if I have the right thread in mind, it does sound as though your son has more care needs. It would be worth putting in a claim, but I would advise getting help from the welfare officers at your local council or the CAB - you will have to make an appointment.

If your son is awarded middle or high rate care, you will be able to claim Carer's Allowance providing you meet the other criteria. You need to be giving at least 35 hours of care a week. I think you said you are a SAHM, so you don't earn more than £95 (partner's earnings are not included). You are not a pensioner and you didn't say anything about being a full time student. So it is feasible that you might be entitled to claim CA if your claim for DLA is awarded at the appropriate rate.

I think the problems with your son and his behaviour are probably more of a concern at the moment. I'm not sure that the school can insist that you home educate him, although they can refuse to have him in the building if he is suspended or excluded. Have you considered that a special school might be more suitable? It can be quite hard to accept, but you have to decide what is best for your son. The school is more likely to be able to teach your son how to control his behaviour, whivch is important for outside school as well as when he is in lessons.

Your daughter also needs to be considered and a place in a special school for your son is surely better for her than having her brother home educated and receiving no attention herself?

I suggest that you see if there is a Carer's Centre in your town - seek advice and support from there.

Savings (and that of the OP's husband) are ignored.
