Nightmare with Garmin Sat Nav what to do?

Have you fitted the unit with 2 batteries? otherwise it will lose its location settings and has to find the satalites again. I just left mine in the back garden to locate the satalites and then fitted it to a Ford Focus with a heated windscreen and its works fine. Also plugging in the power using the ciggy lighter as the sound is a little louder.

They can have the ******* thing the way I feel about it at the moment!0 -
Thanks, yes it does have baterries in and I do plug it into the socket. It finds the setting outside the car but loses them inside so it sounds more and more like the windscreen.freddysmith wrote:Have you fitted the unit with 2 batteries? otherwise it will lose its location settings and has to find the satalites again. Your prob. is def. the windscreen - have colleague at work with EXACT same car and I3 issue!! I told him about these windscreens and he tried mounting on side window - mostly cured it (sometimes can only get 3 sats. due to orientaion of car and sats!) External antenna made it work perfectly! He just takes the antenna off when parking up.
Good Luck!0 -
I have a Picasso. I mount the i3 on the quarterlight to the right of me, works fine. Do you have a dotted area on the windscreen above your rear view mirror, if so, this area doesn't have the coating, it's so auto tolls can work apparently. Wouldn't be any good to me as I would strain my neck looking at it but maybe worth a try, don't give up, when they work they're excellent! This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

I had the same trouble with signal on my C5 so I bought a receiver off ebay for about £10 so as to improve it. I now pop it onto the roof before a jouney for about 30 seconds and it picks up about 8 sats then i transfere it to the front dash on a non slip mat on the right of the screen. Seems to keep the sats for the rest of the journey.
How did I live without a satnav before. Magic invention.0 -
Phoned Comet and they say that as it is more than 7 days I need to contact the manufacturer send it back, get it repaired. I don't want this, i want a refund.
what a load of bull, the law states you are entitled to a refund, repair or replacement at any time within 12 months, the first 6 months refund or replacement. even after 12 months you can ask for a replacement.
Also stating you have to send it off to garmin is also bull, your contract was with comet not garmin.0 -

It has to be proved to be faulty first. Having a heated windscreen does not make the satnav faulty.0 -
I had the same experience with my C5. Got the aeriel from Maplins, mounted it on the rear parcel shelf and hid the wire round the edge of the roof headlining/door trims. It has worked a treat ever since. Mounted the Satnav on the right of the windscreen near the pillar, was able to conceal the power cable under the dash and behind the door seal so it is really neat.0

That's not true either. It is now the responsibility of the seller to prove it was not faulty when it was sold to you. It is no longer your responsibility to prove that it is faulty! This applies for the first 6 months from purchase.
However, I do agree that if it is not working because the car is not suitable for it, that does not make it faulty! The Distance Selling Regs would apply, but it seems the OP is now out of time on that.0
