Prudential Life Assurance Value Decreasing

My mum has an old Industrial Branch life policy with Prudential which they made paid-up a few years ago. Two years ago it's value was £2800 if there was a claim, now it is down to £2400. Obviously terminal bonuses have diminished, but this seems extreme for a policy that has been going for 50+ years. Is this the norm though ?

You may have been aware of the global recession and credit crunch and the impact on the stockmarkets that fell back around 40%. Obviously, that would have hit the terminal bonuses which are very much affected by the markets.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
