toilet cistern access

I've got a drip from the cistern into the toilet bowl. The problem is I can't work out how to get into the cistern! To flush the toilet you press the button that is flush with the top of the cistern (excuse the pun). The button is in the top centre of the cistern. The cistern lid doesn't want to budge. I guess I have to release the flush button somehow but I can't get a grip on it to turn it or prise it off. Any ideas?

You will either have to take out the 2 small inner push buttons(if there are 2), or unscrew the large silver disc( turn to the left), you will then be able to take the cistern lid off.
You will either have a dripping ballvalve or the seal on the syphon is passing and will need a new seal.A thankyou is payment enough .0 -

Small thin screwdriver or thin dinner knife.
Just carefully (most of them are plastic and will scratch) prise the push button out. Or if you have a set of small pointed nose pliars, you may be able to grip the button(s) with those. Underneath the buttons there is usually a small screw. Unscrew and Bobs your uncle. 0 -
OK, unscrewed the outer rim of the silver cover. This meant I could lift the cistern lid off about 2 inches. But I'm left with the inner silver cover attached to a bendy pipe stopping me remove the lid fully. DO I need to get tat lid off? With the cistern lid loose I can't see how that silver lid is attached.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
