And !!!!!! is "personal business use"? Do you mean commuting?
SDP including commuting - this only allows travel to ONE permanent plce of employment, so travel to another office, course location or client site is NOT allowed.
The other type is class 1 which allows you to use your vehicle for business. The OP's husband has been made redundant, so i can't' imagine he's that bothered about being able to commute.
It's almost certainly cheaper to include it up front than to try and change it latter where an admin fee may be charged.
If it's likely that the car may be used for travelling to customer sites, other offices or course locations then business use is needed and not just commuting.
I know he doesn't know the requirements of any particualar job right now, but some people will know in advance that this is liekly to be required in the type of job they are looking for and it's cheaper (or free in some cases) to get it UP FRONT.0 -
Although it's an assumption, I would have throught it reasonable to assume he will be wanting to find another job within the next 12 month period.
It's almost certainly cheaper to include it up front than to try and change it latter where an admin fee may be charged.
Being unemployed but wanting business cover is a contradiction. Most insurers won't allow business use for unemployed drivers.
In any case should the driver change occupations, then the admin charge is inevitable!0 -
Another classic thread leaving the OP about fifty times more confused than when they started.
:money:
I should have taken out a policy in my own name years ago. Now when I may need to, I can't afford it.

Lisyloo - I spent 8 years working in car insurance so I know about different kinds of cover. None are called 'personal business cover' which is what I was querying. It's a contradiction in terms.
Quentin has already pointed out that no insurer would provide SDP&C or any form of business cover to an unemployed policyholder.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
My husband and I will both be using our cars to travel to and from work and also for personal use - is that classified as "business use"?
No, travel to and from work is just commuting (assuming you each would just commute to your own one place of work)
As well as multicar discounts, some insurers (eg more than) will mirror your NCD on a second car if you insure a second car with them.0
