Advice moving home

I'm looking for a bit of advice. I've been with EDF for about three month and am due to move house soon. However, there is going to be one month over lap on both homes. We will be living in our current home and decorating the other home. My question is can I have two homes on one account then when we move remove the other? Or is there a different way of doing this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
L

I do not think this is possible, when you move to a different address you have to register with whichever utility company was last used at that address.Make sure to register on their standard tarrif so you are not tied into a contract with them. Once registered you are then free to change suppliers which will take in the region of six weeks.

So that will mean I will have to cancel the EDF account, will there be a fee for this as i have only been with them a few month?

EDF offer £80 cashback (via topcashback, quidco etc) for a dual fuel switch so in most cases you are better off registering with the existing suppliers. The £80 should cover any differences in tariffs.

Of course, as you are decorating, you will have to look very carefully at the corresponding electricity prices. You may want to change the electricity to the existing suppliers cheapest tariff even with an early leaving penalty (no need to change the gas). Electricity--only cancellation tends to be only about £25 so may be worth it for the two months of high use.

You should probably also register for the online direct debit version of each regardless of what you choose.

Usually if you are moving home any tie in fees are not charged.

If you contact EDF now they may well be able to register as the supplier for your new property from the day you move in. This means you will only have to deal with one supplier when you do move out of the 1st property. It may also mean you can spread your 'final bill' over a few weeks.

This is not true if you advise the supplier you want in advance of moving in as they can register the site from your move in date, it only applies if you move in first.

Sorry for being a bit slow, but if EDF take over when we do move in. What about the elec and gas we use while decorating do i pay the company already connected (in this case british gas) for that month?

Yes, if you change supplier immediately on moving in, then you need to pay for the electricity used, up until the date you move to the next supplier. The previous supplier will just charge you at their standard rates.

Each address has it's own metering details, so each property will be treated differently (probably with a different account number).

Remember to take a meter reading on the day you move out of the old property and a meter reading for the new property when you take possession of this too.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

When I said 'in advance of moving in' I meant in advance of taking over the property which in your case will be when you start decorating.
