Mis-sold DVD player

My dad bought a DVD player from a high street store. Though not too expensive, it's a good make and what he wanted. However when he got it home he realised it's actually a different model of the same make and with a slightly different model number. It's actually worth considerably more. Obviously the shop is to blame, what are his rights?

Cheers.

So you're going to complain that he now has a DVD player worth more than what he paid for? Why is that a bad thing?

If he really is that bothered I'd imagine the store would take it back, although that'd depend on the stores returns policy!
  • He should ring the store and tell them - better to have a clear conscience!

If the store discover the mistake they can ask for it back.

double check what the receipt says, if it says the cheaper one, you will have no chance of making a warranty claim if it were to break down as you have the wrong model unless you notify the shop and sort it out
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Take it back with the receipt (after checking), explain what happened and see what they say.
I know most of us wouldn't say anything; something better for the same price as a cheaper model.

Freddie would keep trap shut, fill out manufacturers guarantee and sit back.

I would recommend re-reading the post; there is no mention of complaint whatsoever!

Mr Nobody, I would get him to phone the shop and explain their mistake, and ask them what they'd like to do. In no way should he be inconvenienced over their error i.e. if they'd like him to return it, they should pay his petrol/parking, or perhaps they'll call round and drop the correct one off.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Besides which, if it breaks down, you might have difficulty getting it fixed since the receipt will likely show a different model.

So basically the OPs' dad was not mis-sold anything. Might want to change the title.

As the cost of dvd players is so low now the shop may just tell you to keep it and issue a new receipt.

First of all he wasn't "mis-sold" that's a very specific term. He was just given the wrong item. As for rights? Rights for what, what does he want to do?
Does he have the right to keep it? Yes.
