Made a stupid driving error - police action?

A couple of days ago I did a very stupid thing and pulled out onto a mini roundabout, in front of a Police car which was coming towards the roundabout from the right. It's a new roundabout and people have been letting other drivers out quite a bit, including another Police car which let me out around a week before.

Anyway, I misread the situation completely, I thought he was letting me out but obviously going by the way he glared at me all the way round the roundabout, that wasn't the case at all. I didn't cause him to slow down or stop and he didn't signal me to stop or try to follow me so I had assumed he was a bit annoyed but wasn't going to do anything about it and was going to let it pass.

However, I've just seen a Police car coming into the square in front of my house, they just sat there for a minute, then drove off. I wondered if was anything to do with checking my car and if I'm likely to be pulled up with regard to the roundabout thing after the event?

Doubt it very much, surely if he had wanted to, he could have pulled you for it at the time.

They'd have stopped you at the time, for sure....

The later Police car may have been there checking your car was at the correct address, but I doubt even that.

I think, not 100% sure but i think if they dont stop you at the roadside then they must contact you within 14 days or they cant take any further action, similar to speed cameras. you should be ok but after 2 weeks you can be confident you are in the clear.
these new mini roundabouts that are popping up everywhere are a meanace, i'd say at least 50% of drivers don't know how to deal with them, your supposed to just give way to cars approaching from your right but so many people stop when theres no need, then pull out when someone actually is coming from the right.

I wouldn't worry at all, the police car was probably just stopping for some random reason. If it was because of your driving they would have spoke to you, the police have nothing to gain from sneaking around for something as minor as this.

and @Petrolhead69 I agree, mini roundabouts are dangerous. There's one near me that for some reason I ALWAYS seem to arrive at at exactly the same time as 3 other vehicles, one from each entrance. It always seems to lead to everyone stopped, looking at the other cars and then two people going for it at the same time and one having to brake sharply.

They would have pulled you up at the time if they were going to do anything about it. The police car pulling up near your house is one of lifes coincidences.

Thanks everyone. You're all right btw, the Police car was nothing to do with me after all thankfully. It came back a short while ago along with a big DVLA van. It seems they are doing routine checks in the area and got someone with no tax disc who was parked near me.

Mini roundabouts are not dangerous. They just lie there minding their own business.;) Drivers not knowing how to negotiate them, that is where the danger lies.

I wouldnt worry either - they were probably having a fag and donut :)

I did something similar a few years back, we live in a cul de sac with a sharp chicane bend at the end. Council decides to do road work on the main road and puts the temporary lights in two places that anyone getting out of the culdesac couldnt see. I sat waiting with traffic coming one way then there was nothing, so assumed the lights must have changed to my right - off I go and come face to face with a police traffic car who gave me the evils. I half expected a letter in the post too but never got one :)

    Relax.

You say in the original post that you did not cause him to slow or stop.

    Therefor you did nothing wrong.

I would have given him a good glare back:mad:
