would one of those ice scrapers for car windscrapers be stronger? or even a wallpaper scraper that you use for stripping the walls?

Mine is frost free but the last one I had used to freeze up all the time. I used bowls of boiling water and a hair dryer -NOT at the same time.

And rubber gloves and lots of towels.

Hair Dryer Is The Best As You Can Direct It At The Areas You Want And Its Loads Quicker
  • I used to use a credit card, or loyalty card. I still do use that on the car window in the winter.

  • I always switch the freezer off if defrosting ! Can't think why someone wouldn't, very unsafe !

I tend to do it over a few hours with bowls of hot water, rubber gloves and towels. Then it usually comes away of its own accord or with a little help from gloved fingers. I just don't like the idea of hacking away at bits of ice and potentially damaging either the freezer interior or wiring :)

Hi PP I have a big upright freezer which I only tend to get round to doing once a year normally just before I get the turkey..:o I bought some of that defroster stuff for the latest attack but it was pretty useless  Went back to the old method of bowls of boiling water, plastic spatula and karate chops :rotfl: very stress relieving!
  • I drag mine out into the yard and shoot the hose at it. Only takes about 20 mins. The door seal wasn't very good on the old one and froze up all the time. I probably shouldn't have, but I used to hit the ice with a rolling pin so big chunks would fall off, and I could shut the door again.

Before I had the frost free version... I used to use a hair dryer. Prior to that I would use a blunt knife. And steam from the kettle.
But the hair dryer does seem to be the quickest of them all:cool:
