Think that's bad??? 4 days unwatered???? We have a new allotment and have worked so hard getting it sorted. My sis-in-law is getting married abroad in the summer and my dh has booked us to go away for 6 weeks :eek::eek: from mid-July to end of August.
My friend who lives nearby will water for me but I can't expect her to put lots of time in. Dreading what it will be like by the time we get back.

 you'd better make friends with the other allotment people then!

    ps I'd love an allotment.

The main problem with pot plants is overwatering, neighbours frequently do this, it drowns the plants.
4 Days is no problem, put them in the bath, do not leave plug in, shower (the plants) sorted til at least Monday.

that was my worry about leaving them in a tub of water.

Think I will do this option.

Thanks again all for your help :A

A good tip i got, which worked well and kept my plants alive for 6 weeks was, cut some strings of wool and attach one end to cup handles or something to hold them down in a bucket of water, with each end of the wool place it in a hole in the soil way down inside the plant pot, the water soaks the wool and keeps the soil moist, sorry if i haven't explained it very well, but it did work a treat. I grouped mine together in the bath, gave them a good watering the night before i left and then did this tip in the morning and it honestly worked.

Group them all together (to reduce air circulation).

Place them as far from the balcony edge as poss (to reduce the amount of sunlight they get).

And use old towels soaked with water (after you get them outside!) to place underneath to act as a reservoir for them and create a more humid environment.

That is exactly what I do and have done for years. It works

Get one of those capillary mats maybe - surely those can be cut to allow only a certain amount of water to be collected during the day?
