Bills in our first house
Morning
We just completed on our first house on Friday, we've never owned a house before so never set up gas, electric and water. Can anyone tell me what to do?! Do we just call a random company to set it up and find the one that does the best price once we've worked out how much we're using? Or do we need to find out what company the previous owner was with and contact them? I took meter readings from both the gas and electricity meters the day we moved in.
Thank you

Initially you have no choice - you have to use whoever is supplying the house and you are on a legally binding 'deemed contract'.
You should get a letter soon addressed to 'The Occupier' and you will be on their Standard Tariff - which is normally the most expensive.
Once you get this you can start investigating the best company. Bear in mind that most of the cheaper tariffs, which are internet based, have a small penalty clause for leaving early.0 -
Personally I'd be pro-active and call to find out who the supplier is and then setup accounts etc. Once you're rolling with the existing supplier you can move. If you want to move, dont agree to a tarrif with a minimum term! This link should give you the info you need:
