Thanks for all your advice. Ive remembered that we've got an electric knife sitting, unused in the cupboard and will trying using this first. I will make my way to Lidl when I have time to try their flour. I may still put an order in with Lakeland though because I fancy trying their bread bags.

Just to add my mite to the Evenslice arguement. This is entirely from my own point of view; we vowed no new gadgets unless we evaluated it fully, and felt it wouldn't take up too much kitchen space. We haven't had cupboards full of unused juicers, toasters, etc. for a few years now. Its probably worth the practice with a good bread knife, as it has more than one use and takes up less space. My family lurv doorsteps, but you can get a thinner slice out of a slightly older loaf. (If your family will leave your breadmaker results long enough to get older.)

I am, as we type, using the Lidl breadflour, and have used a whole range of flours, the Lidl one compares very well.

I too have been considering a breadmaker, i have never had or used one and keep having a look out for good deals. I suppose i am put of by the fact it is another aplliance and i have NO room in my kitchen at the moment:rolleyes:

Personally i have always made my bread by hand and just use bread flour and yeast rather than a bread mix.

Im looking at my bread recipe book and there are quite a few I fancy trying. Has anyone got any tips for where to get ingredients cheaply? Do health food shops work out cheaper than supermarkets? Does Lidl stock things like almonds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, linseed, rolled oats etc?

We bought the evenslice via ebay. Use it all the time for slicing loaves (putting single slices into the freezer so that I'm not tempted to eat the whole loaf - there are just two of us and we are both dieting). However, we now make rolls which makes life easier (we just take a couple out of the freezer, zap in the microwave ... lovely warm rolls to go with our HM soup).
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
