I really must stop reading through the OS threads. You have all recently got me going with all your talk about breadmakers and so I have had to order one (Panasonic from Amazon). I now find myself looking through the Lakeland catalogue at all things to do with breadmakers! This is just NOT moneysaving! You are costing me a fortune!!!!
Seriously though, can anyone recommend the Evenslice gadget which you use to help you cut even slices? Also, they have a "Tips for your Breadmaker" book, full of advice, Doves Farm Quick Yeast and the bread machine Pre-Mixes which you just put in your breadmaker with water. Can anyone recommend any of these? (I promise I will stop spending after this!)

QVC have a thing called a magic knife which is an ultra sharp knife with a guide thingie which enables you to cut even really thin slices of bread. It costs £14.77 and every time I see it on air I want to get one but resist!!Jane

Hasn't anyone used the Lakeland products mentioned?0

I love my breadmaker and I love Lakeland! I do n't use their yeast or breadmixes though because I think they would work out quite expensive. I use Sainsbury's Easy Blend Yeast and Sainsbury's Strong White and Wholemeal Flours (along with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc from the health food store). I did buy their Evenslice, though (because I'm useless at slicing bread unless they are 'doorsteps'. Didn't get on with it, though. OH uses it on the rare occasion when he needs to fend for himself (ie when I go shopping before he's got up and has to get his own breakfast!!)0

I've got an evenslice, there's a knack to it, takes a bit of practice!
You can get cheaper fast action yeast at Morrisons, quite often you can get it on offer, buy bread flour get yeast free.
Just my opinion, but bread makers are pushing it as far as OS is concerned, but pre-packed bread mix is just taking the mickey!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
Hi I use Doves farm Yeast but buy it locally. It's fine no problems with it. I use my 16 year old electric knife to cut my bread.

I use an old electric knife, from charity shop for bread slicing. Personally our family like hovis granary bread mix better than the from scratch bread. It may be taking the mikey but 65p for a granary loaf which all gets eaten is more money saving than a scratch loaf that doesnt imo.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Had a breadmaker now for a couple of years...brill...just make sure you follow the instructions and no problems...White bread flour from Lidls is a favorite and wholemeal bread flour from Tescos. I have used Tesco quick yeast purley because that is nearest to me and it is fine. Have not bought a loaf in all that time so that speaks for itself really. You just need to get organised with the ingredients and time factor and you will have home made bread on tap.0

I bought an evenslice and an electric breadslicer around the same time (ebay) I much prefered the later. So flogged the evelslice back on ebay. Diodn't lose out!
I have never used a bread mix, I do buy good flour along with the lidl strong flour, Ilike a granary one from shipton Mill and Doves malthouse . I also use seeds, and wheatgerm for other loaves.
