laptop has lost settings

Options
Suddenly my laptop does not remember some settings such as date, time etc and I have to reset them everytime I boot up. I get a message during boot up saying configurations not set and asks me to go into f10 but when I do I cant seem to see any reference to this anyway. when I switch on now it comes up with the name of the company who sold it to me and there is a kb counter which says so many kb ok and then it eventually boots up normally. can anyone help please

It's probably a CR2032 in a shrink wrap plastic. £1 in the pound shop. Resolder the old lead set, a bit of tape, all done.
