Buffet style breakfasts ................

I often stay in hotels when traveling for work and over the past few years most have now moved over to the buffet style of breakfast as have many supermarket cafes that I frequent en route ..................great yes speeds up the process but why oh why can't they keep the food hot, I am sure there is a minimum temperature that the food must be and many I am certain fall short of this..............along with the fried eggs with the slimy undercooked white..............dont they know this is a health hazzard and is disgusting to eat as well.......................if you ask to get a egg cooked fresh and turned so it the whites are cooked properly you get looked like you are mad......................mind you gets worse if you ask for the whole breakfast to be heated up in a micro wave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I wanted a warm salad breakfast I would ask for it - cooked breakfast should be hot.

I'm sure someone will come along and give us exact figures, but I'm pretty sure warm food has to be kept above a certain temperature and for only a certain amount of time - otherwise there are a number of bugs that love to grow on the food as well.

Saying that, I love them - breakfast buffee's - wish I didn't - I think its the whole mouth bigger than the stomach problem, but that's what antacids were created for.....

  • "Hot Holding Requirement

Food which has been cooked or reheated or is for service or on display
for sale and needs to be kept hot in order to control the growth of
pathogenic micro-organisms, must be kept at a temperature of 63oC or
    above.

There is an exemption from the hot holding requirement if well
founded scientific evidence shows that a temperature below 63oC for
a specified period is consistent with food safety.

    Hotel breakfasts are revolting.

    *Solid titty shaped eggs.
    *Frazled to **** bacon.
*Fried bread with enough oil in it to keep your car going.
*Toast, which well, God knows what that is.
*Sausages which look like something my OH did in the bathroom.
*Beans, oh don't even go there!!
    *Tomatoes = snot.
*Mushrooms, well not much they can do to them.
    *Tea, eugh!

    I don't think I've missed anything there?

And then on the way home you go to one of these damn roadside stops where Burger King charge £2 for a cup of hot water they call coffee. "£2!!!!" I said, for a cup of hot water!!!

I rarely eat breakfast in hotels especially if they are charging £14 plus for the privilege. I prefer to call into a supermarket and order a hot breakfast for £3 of less or if I am going into the office I eat there in the subsidised canteen.

I stayed at the novotel in brisol at begining of July and that was the first HOT buffet breakfast I have had and it was smashing, the only other one to come even close was at the selsdon park hotel in croydon whilst buffet style - eggs cooked to order and tea/coffee in big heavy silver pots - great service.............both times included in room cost, seems to be if extra charge it is tepid or cold.

The worst was at the big purple hotel the moat house in northampton..............disgusting.

  • It does seem to depend on the turnover of the food, ie. how long it sits around for before it's eaten. At work our dining room is all self service but there's such a flow of hungry people it's never manky (apart from the scrambled egg because it comes from a carton!).

I always find Wetherspoons a good safe bet for a cooked breakfast - can't argue with £1.99 for a large, good quality breakfast and 69p for a cappuccino.

Have to say that most my business trips are spent in Hilton hotels - dont rate the hotels much at all (far too generic, but then you at least know what you are going to get) but the breakfasts are reasonable enough.... fried eggs are normally cooked to order. It is annoying that the haggis and black pudding only appear to randomly get on the menu though (only time I eat fried breakfasts is when away and so want to make the most of it.)
