Windows XP Home Edition.

I run Windows Me but as it has been running so slow and freezing all the time I think it could do with completely scrapping and beginning from scratched - is this the answer?

I was thinking of buying Windows XP and installing that instead. When you install a newer version do you format your C: drive first. As I thought if I just re-install over the top of the current OS any progammes etc on the drive that were causing problems would still be there. Where's the best place to buy the software?

Any help would be appreciated.

The easy answer is to start from scratch, providing it's purely an OS issue.

    However, you could try:

    1. ccleaner
    2. Registry cleaner
    3. Finally, defrag the hard drive.

Great thanks, I have just downloaded these as we speak. so I will try these first - I've never done this stuff before so it will probably find a load of rubbish.

Just one other thing. I think the main problem I have is that whenever I put a CD in the CD drive it keeps saying please insert disk. It's as though it's not recognising a disk in there. Any ideas, as this would be all my problems solved.

Ohherrr an optical drive. that's sound a bit technical. I rebooted and reinstalled my driver for the drive and it recognised the disk for a moment but then when I came out of explorer and changed the cd it didn't recognise it again.
