Anyone know any cheap domain registration and or basic web hosting sites?

Options
As title really.

For web hosting ideally it should be on a linux platform and I don't require much bandwidth or web space.

Thank you.

There are loads that are cheap but go for reliable like https://www.1and1.co.uk and https://www.godaddy.com, I've used both of these for clients and happy with them.

If you want to see know more about websites I saw a good video on this at https://www.jargonfreehelp.com/episode.asp?video_id=websites01 there is advice on SEO to stop you getting ripped off.

1and1 were good to me for domains. Cheap and no hassle, sent an email reminder before expiry (as I'd instructed) and no marketing junk. Straightforward interface even I could manage. There'd have to be a significant price diff for me to consider using someone else tbh, not that I've used many...

Mind to check out if you need any specific software or whatever, hosting isn't always as simple as uploading some files. Yeah I'm being very vague here out of necessity: if you plan on using some site/forum code just check out it's requirements (e.g. php, mysql...).

Some people i.e. me might suggest getting the domain from a different vendor from the hosting. That way there's less lock-in plus you can reroute the domain if there's problems with the hosting. OTOH, this means there are 2 different companies you can potentially have problems with, but those are the breaks.
  • dont use godaddy for hosting only get your domain there, try hostgator for you sever much easier

Basic package ~£10 a year. Their domains are pretty cheap too.

https://www.domains.com is the best for basic pages. £8/year & it lets you decide if you want an annual contract or one where you are tied in forever, like all the rest of them.

It's the most user friendly one I've come across. You can even copy & paste a demo html page before you buy. You get free web space too. It's quick to load. You get no hassles.
