Is it expensive to fit a wet room in new extension rather than a shower room

The first builder we had around said ooooh no its dear to fit one of them - so I didnt think anymore about it - we have since deicded to go with the second builder and had only said about a normal shower room when we build the new extension - today the planner chap came around - he is a friends hubby - professional architect - lovely decent chap - and we got chatting and he suggested a wet room - I replied but they are so expensive he said they used to be 2 or 3 years ago but prices have really really come down - beore I go ahead and ask the builder - has anyone got any ideas or links? Has anyone any knowledge or experience and which do you think is better and why please - wet room or shower room - ie tray shower sink and wc

Many thanks for any and all help

Elaine

We used to have one before we changed the layout downstairs. Our was just a completely tiled 5' x 7' room with a quarry tiled floor which drained to a point beneath the shower head. Then there was a basin and a loo. Hooks for towels and clothes the other end to the shower of course.

It was brilliant, so easy to clean compared to all the nooks and carnies in a shower cubicle.

MIL had one fitted when FIL became poorly she thought it was brilliant and she was hard to please. Hers cost about £3000 about 5 years ago

Just realised, are you talking about upstairs? That could be more complicated I suppose.

we live in a bungalow and are having the side built out so it would be in there - it will be done at same time as extension by the same builder who can do plumbing as well

apparently they have come down in price the last couple of years??!!
  • Did they have a set price? Depends on size/tiles/builders etc etc etc

Naturally that is correct but I guess he meant on the whole - thinking of approx 6 foot square give or take
