You can decide whether or not you automatically sync your iPod or manually manage your songs.
With the iPod connected, click on it in the LH pane of iTunes, and check/uncheck the box.
If it's set to auto sync your iPod, itunes will set the iPod to be a mirror of your iTunes library. If you delete anything within your library, the next time you auto sync the iPod, iTunes will delete the same tunes from your iPod.
Does this help?0 -
yes googler thank you very much0

Sharepod is free and does basically the same stuff - http://www.getsharepod.com/0 -
Are the songs that it's deleting in your music library?
If you sync with your music library and there are tracks on your ipod you've had from someone else/their library they will be removed.
Just double check what playlists you've got selected to sync.0 -
Give us a brief history of this iPod and iTunes on your PC.
How long have you had the iPod? If not long, has it shown this behaviour from new? If you've had it a long time, has the behaviour changed recently?
How do you get your music into iTunes? Do you import CDs into iTunes from your CD drive, or do you import mp3 files or folders into the music library?
How many CDs or tunes are there in your library and in your iPod?0 -
hi all thanks for replying, got pod in dec 2009 the first time i put on most of my cds at the one time as soon as i got it then about 2-3 months later tried to clear all the cds that where already on the library because i thought they may be slowing down my computer then put on another few new cds that was when i noticed a problem that all the ones i deleted from library where deleted from pod so i thought i must have done something wrong or actually blamed husband cos hes not good with these things:o sorry husby! though the few songs that i have bought on itunes are still there the only way i think i'll get it to load cds is if i do them all at the one time but if i ever do one again it will clear it??my guess is there must be another box some where thats not checked/unchecked trouble is dont know where to look u would think itunes would have a proper troubleshooting guide had a look but no joy :eek:0

That's not a problem, it's the way the iTunes/iPod interface is designed to work - IF you have automatic syncing enabled. When you Sync the iPod, iTunes sets the iPod to be an exact mirror of what's in iTunes.
It's a one-way process - iTunes is the Master, the iPod the slave who follows the master's will.though the few songs that i have bought on itunes are still there the only way i think i'll get it to load cds is if i do them all at the one time but if i ever do one again it will clear it??
Where's 'there'? In iTunes, or on the iPod?
If you're loading your CDs into iTunes from the CD drive, you can only do one at a time, surely? Don't get your last statement - what will be cleared if you load a CD into iTunes?0 -
hi , sorry thats was a bit of a ramble, baba in bed now!
the purchased songs are on itunes not in pod,
and what i mean by "all at once" is syncing all my cd's at the one time,
rather than doing 10 discs syncing then doing another 10
because the way its set at the mo it would wipe out the first 10 cds
for example if i had 50 discs loaded on the library then sync to pod
they are ok until i add more or delete from library, as you say it duplicates what is on itunes.
is there any other setting than the manual setting that is in devices under summary?
cos every time i sign in it reverts back to automatic?
thanks for all this0
