Baby Annabel or Baby Born??!!

Hi.
Had a look in Toys R Us today. getting some present ideas for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I would like to get her her first doll.
What I would like advice on is the difference between Baby Annabel and Baby born - obviously once we had decided which she was having then other family etc could get accessories to match. Is one better than the other? If so why?
Thanks!

to be honest i dont think theres much difference, dd1 has got a baby annabell and a baby born and dd2 has got a baby born and a chou chou and as far as i can see there all really similar, the clothes and accessrories seem to fit on all three. The chou chou can crawl and thats why my dd was desperate for it but the basic dolls with no extras are pretty much similar and the prices are pretty much the same no matter which on you go for.
Id see either which one had the best special offers to save a bit or take your to a shop or show her an argos book and point them out and see what one she prefers, my dd2 at the same age wanted a pink baby born.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
Have to agree they both pretty much the same my DD went for the Baby born as there was an offer on at the the time and she gots loads of accesories with it. Also dont go buying the special nappies for them the prem baby nappies will fit from the super market and are normally £3-4 a pack of around 25 or more where as the baby born ones are around £5-6 for a small bundle of about 5 :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

I would say don't go too mad on clothes & accessories, all our babies (& we have managed to end up with a lot!) are naked most of the time.....the only time they get dressed is when I dress them & DD is pretty quick to undress them again.
What is popular is our pram & high chair so possibly get these rather than clothing accessories.0 -
Why do kids undress their dolls? My niece's dolls are always naked, her extended family spent an absolute fortune on a whole wardrobe for the doll and it is always naked!!
My dd is too young for dolls at the moment but I have been told by other Mums that it is much cheaper to buy real baby clothes for dolls rather than dolls clothes - figure that one out!! I have even kept a few of her baby outfits and babygros for when she has her own doll.0 -
My DD had the (at the time) latest Annabel for her 2nd birthday, it moves it's head when you talk, cries 'real' tears etc etc. The thing weighs a ton, and is unwieldy for a little girl really. She prefers her more manageable sized My First Baby Annabel, or the boy Magic Eyes Baby Bjorn she HAD to have at a car boot sale (cost £2, complete with outfit and magic dummy).
I agree about the nappies though, doll nappies often have sticky tape instead of velcro tabs, so it doesn't take a lot of nappy changes before they stop sticking. Pampers Preemie nappies last for months!
My DD is now 3 and she does love to dress and undress hers, but to begin with the dummy, bottle, nappies, potty etc were the most played with accessories - oh and a pushchair/buggy/car seat of course! But any generic ones that fitted were fine, she really doesn't care if they're official Zapf or not.
Hmm, the Baby Born goes in the bath where our fancy Annabel didn't, but she's softer so more cuddly...... Could you maybe let your little one see both, and observe which she prefers, without causing problems if you don't buy it there and then?0 -
Thanks everyone. I was looking at the 'my first...' ones - a much better size for a little one.
Great advice about nappies - thanks again!0 -
I bought some cloth nappies for preemies from a site can't remember where but should be easy to find. They fit perfectly and are pretty colours tooI have realised I will never play the Dane!
Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!!0
