I have had a sony DSC-W150 for just over a year and its been fine. Switched it on yesterday to take a pic and the lens just keeps going in and out about three or four times then it asks me to switch it off and back on again. The same thing just happens again. Anyone got any ideas?

It's probably an error associated with the sensor that controls the position of the lens.
If you can say with certainty that it's not been mishandled/dropped, I'd get in touch with the company that you bought it from. They should repair or replace it for you, as required by the Sale of Goods Act. If they want to be difficult about it, they may ask you to have it inspected by a qualified person to say that the fault was inherent (but they probably won't).
Failing that, contact Sony - although they are not obliged to help outside the warranty period, they often do.0 -
the lens may have some grit in it or has had a knock0

It's a known fault apparently. A module requires replacing. It may cost about £75-£100.
You need to speak to someone ina Sony shop0 -
Thank you for your replies, I have the receipt it was bought from Argos but they wont do anything now as its been over a year. I suppose it could have a grain of sand in it (looking at your post abouot grit) I have just come back from my holiday, I am always careful but I suppose it could have happened. Thanks again0

susi,
I think you will find the lens module needs replacing. I say that because mine did the same thing. I tried everything, and in the end the lens module was faulty. Luckily mine was within the warranty.
Just Google the problem. I did and that is why I know it's a known fault0 -
Thanks Bill0

Then you should remind them about their obligations under the Sale of Goods Act.
Forget the warranty and apply your rights - as it's a known, inherent fault, no reasonable interpretation of your rights would let them off the hook.0
