trying without success to buy a new car

im after either a citreon nemo or a peugot bipper tepee. got two dealers to agree to the same discount.
but peugot have really messed up they wont give me as much for my current citreon berlingo 07 plate with 22000 miles will only give me £3000 where as citroen will go to £3250. had to deal with a buisness manager who gave us a finance monthly payment without even telling us how much he would offer for our car and the he leaves to go speak to someone so i take a look at the screen and he has put down an extra discount of £500 he did this rather than offer us more for the car in part ex. so when i then said i would be willing to put down £1000 extra to bring down the finance but the sums just didnt add up till i took a little peak at the screen and the salesman had got rid of the £500 so in theory when i said i would put down an extra £1000 it was only £500 as he just removed the £500 he had allready done as discount.
i dont wont to deal or talk to this guy again as as far as im concerned he tried to rip me off.
also they have a OTR price on there dealership website which is differnet to the main peugot website about £300 lower could i get them to honour that and also not good when they are not even aware of offers on there own website with regards £550 of the OTR price and he tries to tell me that he will do a £500 discount .
aaagggghhhhh i cant be doing with all this salesman talk as it doesnt work with me.
what to do ........

citroen on the other hand have been pretty good and honest as far as i can tell and very open about discounts prices etc.

but my other half wants to deal with peugot even after the things they have tried on with us.

also going to have to wait 8 to 10 weeks for the new car. and apparently peugot have stoped ordering and making the outdoor version should that be a concern for a newish car.

would going to another dealership maybe a bigger one get a better deal or would all the dealerships be othering the same. for instance citreon is only a veyr small dealership with abput 10 cars on the forecourt wheres there is another citreon delaerships which is much bigger would i maybe get a better deal there?

Go to as many dealers as you can and don't be afraid to tell them what you are doing.

I agree with that. I bought a new Berlingo last year and had no hesitation in shopping around all the dealers in the area asking them to beat each other's prices. I also used the best price I could get on the internet and eventually one of them bettered it.

Bear in mind that some Citroen dealers are wholly owned by Citroen UK and have more leeway to beat prices. These are the ones names 'Citroen Birmingham, 'Citroen Coventry' and so on.

Best of luck. I do love the Nemo, but the Berlingo is bigger and actually worked out cheaper! May be something to consider if you haven't already...

Not that I am a car expert lol

But after advice from the kind people on these boards, I went to more than 1 dealer and at my 4th dealership got what I wanted price wise.

I didnt let on i'd been to others, but if they asked what i'd seen elsewhere I was able to quote prices seen on the internet etc

Have a look on autotrader too and also exchange and mart, thats where I got a good idea of prices, mileage

Also be aware sometimes there is a minimum amount which can be put on finance, I wasnt aware of this but found out when I went to the third dealership, so if you have a decent deposit it doesnt work out as well, they make you think it does.

Would defo recommend trying more than one, as I learnt a little from each and also got better in terms of neogotiating as I went along!! :)

    Good luck!

was the internet price for the new car ? have seen on some websites that you can get savings of websites like drive the deal but will they be interested. when i told them how much my car im part exchanging was suppose to be worth after looking on the web they just fobbed me oiff saying that was what it was worth of they spend hundreds valeting it and putting warranties etc on the car.

can't you just try to sell your car privately and put the cash raised towards the new car ?

glasses guide has valued my car at £3390 in below average condition , average is £3820 and excellent is £4290.
so why do they offer me only 3000 are they just trying to maximise there profit.
the car has the a few trolley dents and a broken passenger sun visor. but has only 22000 miles and a full dealers service history . have even checked auto trader and they are selling for about £5500 to £6000 there are two the same with more miles for just under £6000 .

would it be worth taking in the glasses guide valuation for them to see ?

and when the citreon guy looked in it he said it was excellent condition inside which he expected for the low mileage .

Just focus on the price to change don't get hooked on trade in value, some dealers will offer you a higher value because they no people like to be "getting a good price for the trade in" but then don't discount the new car as much.

Don't bother showing then glasses they have that in there draw already!

If they are really going for what you say on auto trader sell it that way.

if they're listed for that much just sell privately. If we assume those listed are private sales and they will end up selling for about £4.5k just put it up for £4k-£4.5k and you should get a quick sale (assuming it has a reasonable MOT). Dealers are always going to want to buy at the lowest price possible - that's how they make their money. They aren't obliged to pay the glass valuation which is just a rough guide.

Well count them at £200 a pop and it will soon mount up.
