Mint or Oregano??

Ok.. apologies... I might sound a bit thick, but.. I planted a herb hanging basket last summer..

I has parsley, mint, chives, oregano.. I've taken out the parsley and mint, so thought I was just left with chives and oregano.. planted some thyme, and looks like it will be pretty..

Now I've looked at what I thought was the oregano and some of it smells of mint, but some of it doesn't???!! Have I created a strange hybrid? IT all looks the same apart from one bit which is quite definitely mint!!
Thinking I should just rip it all out and start again..

Yes, there is definitely one sprig of mint amongst your orgegano, immediately to the right of the front sprig of oregano in your second photo.
Oregano can spread out quite quickly, and mint roots can also spread. You might want to carefully dig out your root of mint and put it in a separate pot then they'll both have room to thrive.

could be wrong here, but I vaguely remember that oregano has a fuzzy stem & mint doesn't. So looks like you have one heroic sprig of mint amidst your oregano

I have it sprouting up in my chives in another planter too.. lol.. blooming mint!! Was only supposed to last a year, but as the hanging basket survived winter, am reusing.. From now on, Mint stays in a pot on it's own!!
Glad that it is oregano though.. Thanks everyone for your help :)

absolutely - and another word of advice: don't put it in a pot with holes in the bottom which you then place onto soil/grass. Its roots will find their way out of the bottom of the pot and into the soil ! I learned the hard way after 20 mins of
    hauling of a well-embedded pot !
