Wife losing job...What do we claim for?
Comments

Shes worked for the last 2 years, so I dont see why not. So is it just JSA and child tax credits? Would we get help for houseing? She has already returned from maternity leave and has been for 3 months and everything was fine. Just today the management have said you need to start working saturday nights. I am looking for a full time job, have been for a while. Just well I don't know, not going to well

What you need to do is look for a regular saturday night babysitter. Ask friends of family with children of their own for recommendations or you may find a friend who can't afford to go out sat night at the moment and is prepared to commit.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. easier said then done. We may be able to found a sitter some of the time but i doubt we could get a sitter every sat0

Well all of the housing/council tax benefits are means tested, if you're working too then you might only be entitled to a small amount of them.
If your wife gives up her job voluntarily and then tries to claim JSA she may be sanctioned for anything up to 26 weeks (this is at a decision makers discretion) so she is probably better off submitting a grievance to her work place outlining that she has never had to work a Saturday before and that forcing her to do different shifts after maternity could potentially be discriminatory (has anyone else been told their shifts are changing) and fight it all the way.
I'd use the entitled to calculator to work out what (if any) other benefits are available.0 -
yes thank you, im on the calculator now0
